Alfonso d’Ors

Alfonso d'Ors arrived at the Moncloa Ceramics School more than forty-five years ago, during which he has not stopped learning and transmitting the many secrets of a discipline that he claims has a lot of science and art. For decades he has combined his teaching work with his role as a muralist and sculptor, following in the footsteps of masters such as Arcadio Blasco, which has led him to obtain countless awards in national and international ceramic competitions and competitions. But for twenty years his interest in oriental ceramics has found in the chawan, the ritual bowl for the tea ceremony, a sublime object, to which he decides to dedicate all his creative energy.

Alfonso d'Ors models a chawan every day, as a way of life, as a unique and exclusive piece. The artist submits each bowl according to his particular criteria. You need to live with them, hold them in your hands, observe them, study the result and the relationship between their weight, shape, texture, color and touch, to approve that these qualities meet the Zen code of beauty of the imperfect.

It is then that he makes it available to lovers of this beautiful utensil, as old as the human gesture of cupping the hands to drink. Alfonso d'Ors' exclusive pieces, appreciated by collectors around the world, condense his extraordinary knowledge of materials and techniques and, at the same time, perfectly represent the idea coined by his grandfather Eugenio d'Ors of “Obra ”. well done"
